CA in Nepal under ICAN
Chartered accountant i.e. CA in Nepal is a prominent, responsible, and lucrative profession. It provides the optimum combination of academic knowledge, practical experience, analytical and technological skills for overseeing the whole operations and administration of modern corporate organizations. The scope of CA in Nepal has shifted dramatically in recent years. Globalization, liberalization, and the revolution in information technology have completely altered the scope of CAs in financial reporting, as well as in many other areas where professional accountants’ competence is required.
Today, chartered accountants have high executive positions in both the public and commercial sectors. CA in Nepal provide a variety of consulting services based on their professional qualifications and specific knowledge, such as developing profit planning programs, directing managerial decisions, conducting feasibility studies, making investment proposals, and serving as tax management consultants. Aside from doing various sorts of audits, many CAs serve the corporate and public sectors as CEOs, Managing Directors, Finance Directors, Chief Operating Officers, Internal Auditors, and so on. Every day, there is a steady demand for qualified, trained, and experienced chartered accountants. Chartered accountants also hold important positions in the government sector.

Association with International Professional Bodies.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) is affiliated with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the Confederation of Asia and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), and the South Asian Federation of Accountants.
Chartered Accountancy Course:
CA in Nepal is challenging. Based on distance learning module, it involves in depth theoretical education and practical training imparting sound analytical and problem-solving skills to the students.
Course Duration:
The course is divided into:
- CAP – I – Six Months.
- CAP – II – Nine Months.
- CAP -III – Three Years (Including Articleship training).
Students can pursue all level of Chartered accountancy course at Elite CA.
Road Map for CA in Nepal?
Chartered Accountancy Professional-I Level:
CAP-I is a first level for Chartered Accountancy Course. The duration of this level is six months. This is basically for the students willing to enter in the professional CA course immediately after completion of higher secondary education (10+2, PCL, A Level or Equivalent). The course has been designed to provide students basic knowledge and skills as part of the entry standard for the professional level.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students are eligible for CAP I if their secondary (10+2) or from recognized academic institutions with minimum 2.4 GPA or C+ grade or minimum 50%.
- 2. Graduates/Post Graduates with a score of less than 50% in Commerce, Business Administration, or Management with a major in Accounting, Audit, or Tax; Graduates/Post Graduates with score of less than 55% in Commerce, Business Administration, or Management with a major in Subject Other than Accounting, Audit, or Tax; Graduates/Post Graduates with a score of less than 60% in Faculty Other than Commerce; and as a result, they are not eligible to register directly for the CAP-II Course but they are eligible to start CAP -I for CA in Nepal. Provisional Registration
For CA in Nepal, students can be enrolled via provisional registration as well. Students who have appeared in +2 or equivalent exams can also pursue CA course in CAP -I level. Students have to submit proof of pass result for such examinations within 6 months and after verification such provisional registration will be converted into full registration. If any students fail to submit the result or proof, registration will be cancelled and fees will not be refunded.
Procedure for Registration:
Registration is open for whole year. Students can appear the board exam twice a year- JUNE & DECEMBER to pursue CA in Nepal. Registration closes on end of May for December exam and November end for June exam. Registration can be done through ICAN online registration portal
Documents required for CAP-I registration:
- Scanned copy of Passport Size Photo of the Student.
- Scanned copy of Signature of the Student
- Scanned copy of Citizenship Certificate/Passport
- Scanned copy of Marks Sheet/Transcript of SEE Examination
- Scanned copy of Character Certificate of SEE Examination
- Scanned copy of Admit Card of 10+2 or equivalent examination for provisional registration or Marks Sheet/Transcript and Character Certificate of 10+2 or equivalent examination
Note: If student doesnot have citizenship, can be submitted later while submitting full documents but students should write a application to submit citizenship later and upload it in place of citizenship
Registration Fees:
The total fee for the CAP-I Level course is Rs. 30100. It can be paid fully at the time of registration or also on Installment basis.
- Rs. 17,600.00 while doing registration
- NPR. 12,500/- within 3 months from the date of registration.

Eligibility Criteria for Examination:
To appear the CAP-I examination, students must first pass the Eligibility/Pre-Test as defined by ICAN. The institute organizes the pre-test online. The student must pass the eligibility test at least three months before the examination date, and within three years of registration. The eligibility test will be administered until the end of August for students taking the December examination and until the end of February for students taking the June examination each year. Failure to pass the eligibility test will result in the termination of registration after the required time period.
Passing Criteria:
Students have to score minimum 40% in each Paper and minimum 50% in aggregate.
Chartered Accountancy Professional – II Level:
- Passed the CAP-I Level Examination, or
- Bachelors or Masters pass in Commerce, Business Administration or Management having Accounts, Audit and Tax as a major subject and secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, or
- Bachelors or Masters pass in Commerce, Business Administration or Management having major subject other than mentioned above and secured a minimum of 55% aggregate marks, or
- Bachelors or Masters pass in other than above with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
Provisional Registration:
Candidates who have appear a final-year or post-graduate examination can register temporarily for the CAP-II level. However, such provisional registration will be validated only upon submission of proof of passing the aforementioned examination with minimum marks within 6 months after the date of provisional registration. Proof of passing the examination must be uploaded through the student’s login account. Failure to comply with this will result in the revocation of provisional registration, and fees paid will not be refunded.
Procedure for Registration:

- Marks Sheet/Transcript and Certificate of CAP-I Level; or Scan Copy of Admit Card of final year of graduation or post-graduation examination for provisional registration or Marks Sheet/Transcript and Character Certificate of graduation or post-graduation.
The Fee Structure:
The total fee for the CAP-II Level course is NPR. . 32,500/-. This can be paid fully at the time of registration or also on Installment basis as follows:
NPR. 17,500/- at the time of Registration and
Balance NPR. 15,000/- within 6 months from the date of registration.

To appear the CAP-II exam, students must first pass the Eligibility/Pre-Test as defined by ICAN. The institute organizes the pre-test online. The student must pass the eligibility test at least two months before the examination date, and within three years of registration. The eligibility test will be administered until the end of August for students taking the December examination and until the end of February for students taking the June examination each year.
